Why
“This work is divided into two complementary parts that form a single whole:
one part is sculpted and woven using photographs, texts, paint and memories of my family in Morocco and their immigration to Israel. The second part is a video projection. Working in the medium of video art, I sculpt the photographic material using a contemporary technique. The video imitates the traditional warp and weft of the weave created on the loom. Like the patterns on a traditional rug, the video also features recurrent patterns that symbolize my personal memory of family traditions. A memory woven over time.
The point of departure for my works is photography, yet not in and of itself. My hybrid approach involves sculpting the photographic material, leading me to use different mediums – video art, collage, and photographed paper as material, in order to create voluminous works using different techniques. These works move between the fixed photograph and its deconstruction, as I process and reassemble reality and its representations.”
