What

Recycled plastic bottle caps, metal thread; weaving

Who

Vera Wallerstein, b. 1948

Why

“I work spontaneously with the everyday objects that surround us. Things that are usually discarded acquire value and significance in a new context. Here and Now is a work based on simple, flexible woven structures composed of metal wire and plastic bottle caps collected from recycling bins. Working with a limited palette, I created modular works that can easily be manipulated in several ways to create multiple compositions, which appear minimally or dramatically different from one another. The caps can be folded, piled up or expanded while considering color, density and movement, creating a range of moods and energies. This interactive work invites viewers to engage physically in a nuanced tactile experience, and to experience playfulness and humor.”
